A Romantic Home for Romantic People
"The lot was close to the end of town, on a quiet corner in a nice, friendly neighborhood. Mom knew she wanted to keep the maple standing, and incorporate the grapevine, so she made sure to design a house which would not necessitate cutting down the trees, because their age and beauty meant a lot to her. Mom is a horticulturist and worked in a green house, and seemed to plan the landscaping before she had begun working on the plans. The herb garden and the pergola with brick flooring were particularly close to her heart. We completed the pergola on Mother's Day. My Dad and sister were working on the pergola to finish when my sister fell. We rushed her to the hospital to find out she had torn her kidney. Nothing serious, but we always remember that day with laughter and tears. I know as a child I often wondered why we had the lot and what we would do with it, as we owned it for many years before we started building."
