Photonic crystal waveguide with multiple off-channel resonant features formed of Kerr nonlinear dielectric

A theoretical study is presented of the interaction of guided modes of a photonic crystal waveguide with bound electromagnetic modes localized on off-channel impurity features of Kerr nonlinear media. The interest is on the properties of resonant scattering and optical bistability exhibited by the system. A number of interesting effects, arising from the coherent scattering of the guided modes by a number of different off-channel features, are focused upon. A type of induced electromagnetic transparency and various modifications of the waveguide dispersion relations are found.
