Open-ended Growth of Complexity in Competitive Evolution

I will present two simulations of the evolutionary dynamics of competing organisms which exhibit an open-ended growth of complexity. This open-ended growth is related to the invariance of the evolutionary process with respect to changes in the complexity of the organisms. Point mutations and finite system size are shown to break the invariance, limiting the growth of complexity.
